New Zune features: Social

I don’t think I was the only one that doubted what Microsoft was doing by heralding the whole social aspect of Zune. After logging in this morning, I see where they are going. The Zune software now automatically searches for other zune listeners with similar tastes to you, and shows you what they are listening to. This gives the user an opportunity to meet new people, and even hear some new music. Read more…

Zune Firmware and software update installed; thoughts ensue [update]

Perhaps the most noticeable part of the update is that I cannot access many of the features seeing as the Zune social site is down, which means that I can’t sign in. Fortunately I have been able to test out the games, Hexic and Texas Hold ’em. Both games run smoothly, and have seamless integration with your music, I am surprised that they are not demos but at the same time extremely relieved. To access the game on the Zune simply select games from the main menu. Additionaly, there is now a marketplace tab that lets you connect to a network and surf the marketplace straight from the Zune, I also noticed that the “add to cart” option is now available while listening to the radio and that the song name will display while you are listening to the radio regardless if you are going to purchase it or not. Zune firmware upgrade, looking good!

September 16th will see the launch of a new Zune firmware update, that will support every Zune player, along with the new zune models, the 16gb and the 120gb. Microsoft has also announced a new color for Zune, the blue zune.

One of the new features with the firmware update will involve the FM radio. The Feature is “Buy from FM” and will allow the user to tag a song they are listening to so they can buy it later. This new online integration is also key to some other parts of the upgrade, as Zune users will now be able to browse, stream, buy, and download from the Marketplace straight from their Zunes.
